CANGGU EXPAT COMMUNITY

Surf breaks, rice paddies, and more laptops per square meter than anywhere else in Bali. This is where most expats end up. At least at first.

WHAT'S CANGGU ACTUALLY LIKE?

Five years ago, Canggu was rice fields and a few surf camps. Now it's the default answer when someone asks "where do expats live in Bali?" Coworking spaces on every corner. Acai bowls at every cafe. You'll hear more English than Indonesian some days.

That's not a complaint. The infrastructure is here because the people are here. Fast wifi, good gyms, restaurants that understand dietary restrictions. If you're working remotely and want things convenient, this is the obvious choice.

The downside: traffic is getting worse, prices keep climbing, and some longtime residents say it's lost its soul. Maybe. But for a lot of expats, especially newer ones, it's still the easiest place to land.
