Uluwatu cliffs and ocean
Bukit Peninsula, Bali

ULUWATU EXPAT COMMUNITY

The southern tip. Limestone cliffs, reef breaks, and space to breathe. For people who came to Bali for the ocean, not the scene.

THE SOUTH'S SLOWER PACE

Uluwatu used to be just for surfers willing to deal with bad roads and limited infrastructure. That's changing, but slowly. The cliffs and reef breaks that draw people here aren't going anywhere, and neither is the sense that you're somewhere a bit removed.

The expat community is smaller than Canggu's. More focused, maybe. A lot of surfers, obviously, but also wellness people, cliff-house renters, and folks who just wanted more space between themselves and the Canggu traffic.

You'll need a motorbike or a lot of patience. Shopping options are limited. The wifi at some villas is still iffy. But the sunsets from the cliffs are unmatched, and there's something about living where the land drops into the Indian Ocean.
