Local Expats Bali ("we", "our", "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share your information when you use our platform (website, mobile app, and related services).
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Personal Information You Provide
- Name, email address, and phone number (during registration)
- Profile photo (optional, via camera or photo library)
- Residency documents (KITAS, visa — for Expat tier verification)
- Payment information (processed securely by Stripe — we do not store card numbers)
Information Collected Automatically
- Device information and push notification tokens (for sending event reminders and updates)
- Approximate location data (with your permission, to show distance to partner venues)
- Calendar access (with your permission, to add events to your device calendar)
- App usage data and interaction patterns
- Crash reports and performance data (via Sentry, for improving app stability)
2. HOW WE USE YOUR INFORMATION
We use your data to:
- Provide and manage your membership and subscription
- Process payments securely via Stripe
- Send notifications about events, membership updates, and community news
- Show you the distance to nearby partner venues
- Verify your identity and residency status for the Expat membership tier
- Improve our services, fix bugs, and enhance the user experience
- Communicate with you about your account and respond to support requests
- Facilitate the referral programme and track commissions
3. INFORMATION SHARING
We do not sell your personal data.
We share data with the following service providers who help us operate the platform:
- Stripe — payment processing and virtual card issuance
- Clerk — authentication and account management
- Supabase — secure database hosting
- Sentry — crash reporting and error tracking
- Resend — transactional email delivery
- Partner venues only see your membership status when you present your card — they do not receive your personal data
- We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users
4. DATA STORAGE AND SECURITY
- Your data is stored securely via Supabase (cloud-hosted PostgreSQL infrastructure)
- All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest
- Access to user data is restricted through authentication and role-based access controls
- While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no system is 100% secure
5. YOUR RIGHTS
You have the right to:
- Access your personal data (viewable in your profile and account settings)
- Correct inaccurate information (via the Edit Profile screen)
- Delete your account and all associated data (via Settings → Delete Account in the app)
- Export your data (contact us at weare@localexpatsbali.com)
- Opt out of marketing communications (manage notification preferences in the app)
When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently removed from our systems, including your profile, membership, documents, event registrations, and notification history.
6. COOKIES AND TRACKING
- Our website uses essential cookies for functionality
- We use Google Analytics to understand how our website is used
- We do not use third-party advertising trackers
- The mobile app does not use cookies
7. PUSH NOTIFICATIONS
- Push notifications are optional — you are prompted to enable them and can disable them at any time
- Notifications are used for: event reminders, membership updates, and community announcements
- You can manage notification preferences in your device settings or within the app
8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
Our services are not intended for individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will take steps to delete their account and data.
9. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
